Islam consists of belief in a unique and absolutely transcendent God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Muslims—as the followers of Islam are called—strive to organize their lives in accordance with His commandments and endeavor to realize a just social order on earth. As the sole arbiter of human actions, God the All-Knowing will requite each human being on the Day of Judgement for deeds performed in this life. There are five fundamental religious duties, sometimes called the Pillars of Islam, incumbent upon every Muslim.
